In 2011, the European Commission adopted the Regulation on Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT), which introduced a new concept of the regulation of the European electricity and gas market in order to increase its transparency and integrity. The regulation is carried out by the European Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER). Due to a high number of market participants who are obliged to report records of transactions, ACER has approved eligible third-party Registered Reporting Mechanisms (RRMs). RRM is thus a function performed by a legal entity, capable of aggregating the reporting of multiple individual reporters.
Pursuant to Article 8 of the REMIT regulation, the European Commission adopted an implementing act on 17 December 2014, which specifies the obligations set out in the regulation.
